THE PILL
  • The Pill consist of synthetic hormones
  • Effectiveness of the pill is up to 91%.
  • In practice a hundred women who take the pill for a year, 9 women will end up with an unintended pregnancy.
  • Safe and low side effects for most women.
  • Helps to regulate periods, especially good for those with heavy periods as will help reduce the pain
  • Side effects: (in a few women) headache, nausea (feel like vomiting), breast tenderness.
  • Not suitable for women with history or family history of blood clots in the veins

THE INJECTION (Progesterone only Injectable Contraceptive Methods)
  • Effectiveness of the Method is 94%.
  • In practice, 100 women who use this method for a year, 6 will end up with an unintended pregnancy.
  • Return of fertility may be delayed between 6 months to 1 year.

THE INTRAUTERINE DEVICE
  • Small T shaped device placed into the uterus by a doctor.
  • It is placed in through the vagina, up the cervix. Can be done in clinic
  • Effective about 97-98%
  • Safe to use for 3 or 5 years, depending on type and dose.
  • Periods may be heavier the first few months (copper type) or less/no period (for hormone type), may have some period pain for the first few months.
  • If you want to get pregnant before the expiry date, just go to your doctor to have the device removed. It can be done in the clinic with little to no pain.

THE IMPLANT
  • Implant is one of the most effective contraceptive methods available.
  • Synthetic hormone in a small plastic capsule that is placed under the skin of the upper arm. Procedure is done by a doctor
  • Almost 100% effective
  • Suitable for women of all ages, for short term or long term use.
  • Safe and good for long contraception
  • Periods may be irregular, less than usual or no periods.
  • Maximal duration of each implant use is up to 3 years.

CONDOM
  • Rubber (latex) cover that is placed over the penis during sex.
  • Should be put on over your partner's erected penis
  • Condom is removed after ejaculation.
  • 75% effective (all depends on the user).
  • Good for protection against infections (sexually transmitted infections) including HIV
